Hello Community Action Teams!
After 3 online sessions and outreach with folks across Alberta over the last month, we’ve had engaging conversations and developed some great ideas and actions to move forward on.
The sessions highlighted just how ready for change our communities are and how engaged we are willing to be. The top themes identified were:
- The current government is not listening to citizens
- A lot of people are feeling isolated and intimidated in communities where divisions are amplified
- Communities want more ways to work together around shared goals and messages
- We need better outcomes for Albertans and we want to be active and effective in the next election
The 3 issues of highest concern identified were:
- Health care
- Education
- Social tensions and division
In response to this feedback, we’re kicking off 2 Actions on healthcare and 3 Workshops!
Actions to Protect our Public Health Care
We heard loud and clear that one of the biggest worries on people’s minds is the erosion by this UCP government of our public health care system and the disregard for front line staff.
Let’s work together to stop the UCP from breaking our public health care system by sending a message that we won’t stand by while they give our public health dollars to profit-seeking companies and we certainly won’t let this issue take a back seat in the next provincial election.
ACTION: Write to Prime Minister Trudeau to tell him not to send a blank cheque to the UCP to privatize our health care
We know provincial premiers are asking the Prime Minister for more federal money for health care and we want Justin Trudeau to know that we want money to be used for publicly-delivered services only. Join federations of labour from across the country to send him a message now.
ACTION: Plan for province-wide protest of health care privatization
We’re calling together the Community Action Teams to plan a province-wide action day with coordinated, localized activities to advocate against privatization of Alberta health care and to call on the government to properly invest in our public health system.
Please join in on Monday, March 28, 2022 at 7:00 p.m. to be part of the action planning in support of our health care heroes and a strong public health-care system. Register in advance for this meeting, here.
