The Division has been receiving questions about illness and sick notes. It is recommended that staff who are experiencing symptoms of any illness stay home until their symptoms resolve. Applicable entitlements in the staff member’s respective collective agreement or terms and conditions of employment would be used for the absence.
Staff who test positive for COVID-19 may provide verification of their absence by providing a time and date stamped picture of their positive test to Employee Health in place of typical medical documentation required after the third day of absence. Staff members may return to work once their symptoms resolve. If a staff member is still ill after five consecutive days, regular medical documentation will be required.
For all other illnesses, medical notes are required for any absences that are expected to last longer than three days. Medical notes should be submitted to Employee Health at firstname.lastname@example.org or by confidential fax to 780-429-8436 and should not be provided to the school or DU.
